Bibbulmun Track (Southern Half)

The Bibbulmun Track is a world class walking track stretching from Kalamunda to Albany - a journey of 965km.  Along it's route you will enjoy a wide variety of natural landforms, unique flora and fauna.  You will also pass through some of the friendliest country towns Western Australia  has to offer.

The Track boasts some of the best overnight facilities in the world - at no charge to you!  There are 48 campsites dotted along the route approximately 20km apart (even closer along the sections closest to Perth).  Each campsite consists of a three-sided sleeping shelter, rainwater tank, pit toilet, picnic table and tent sites.

The Bibbulmun Track is divided in two main halves - the Northern and Southern Sections.  Guidebooks and maps can be purchased from The Bibbulmun Track Foundation (www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au) or camping retailers and most good bookstores. On Track Hiking Hire have both the Guidebooks & Maps available for use when our hiking equipment is hired.

The Southern Half covers 505 km between Donnelly River Village and Albany.  There are 28 sections of Track with campsites between 10km and 25km apart.  This section of Track follows the coast toward the latter part of the journey, is less undulating than the Northern Half and passes through the more lush and temperate areas of the South West.  The forest is dominated by Jarrah, Wandoo and the spectacular Karri tree.  This is a good section to tackle in summer as the weather is far more tolerable in this region.  There are sections of this Track where the forest is spectacular!

There are (what seems) an endless range of tourist attractions along this route including - Big Brook Dam, Gloucester Tree, Pemberton Townsite, Mandalay Beach, Tree Top Walk and even a canoe crossing at Irwin Inlet.  Hikers should not miss the chance to experience this section of Track.
