Off Track! On Water!

Last week the On Track team swapped hiking boots for canoes, backpacks for fishing rods and walk trails for 4wd tracks.  We headed off to the Collie & Murray Rivers for a spot of Redfin fishing.

We launched our canoe just up from Honeymoon Pool, where we were amazed at how clear the water was.  We could see the bottom of the river for the whole journey!  It revealed massive marron walking among the dead logs and the lazy swims of rainbow trout.  The redfin weren't on the bite unfortunately - but we did manage to catch a trout!  Well almost - in our excitement it fell from our grasp, bounced on the rocks and back into the water.  Hmmm looks like just plain ol' pasta for dinner.

Soon after, our abandoned canoe was seen shooting a series of rapids and waterfalls before our very eyes. We hadn't secured the canoe properly when we left it to clamber down the rocks in search of fish filled pools.  Fortunately our gear was not lost and the canoe avoided filling with water and/or breaking!  I didnt realise how fast you can run in a pair of Crocs!

Saturday night we camped out at Hoffman's Mill (to our surprise with dozens of others!) and drank port around the fire.  Everyone appeared to be having a great time (if the sound of the piano accordian was anything to gauge by).  Cam and I were expecting to hear the "Birdie Dance" and wondered who was going to get up first to dance!

We tried our hand under the bridge at Nanga but came up empty again.  Seems the Redfin were on holidays too. Oh well, who cares!  At least we were outdoors.

We are soon off to Donnelly River to do some maintenance work on a bit of track there, so Im sure, the rods will find their way on to our packs this time.
