Karijini National Park
The On Track Hiking boys headed off over the Easter Break to one of our favourite places - Karijini National Park.
We set off early Thursday morning with our end destination the Kumarina Roadhouse. This is a great place to stay and hosts Bob & Joan Currie are great company. The roadhouse has grassy tent sites, unit type accommodation, dining room and a well stocked bar.
Fern Pool
After passing through Newman Friday morning, we arrived at our Dales Gorge campsite by mid afternoon. It didnt take long to be up to our necks in cool, clear water! We swam at Fern Pool before heading off to Fortescue Falls and Circular Pool.
Whilst the days were warm, the nights were overcast. We found ourselves huddling in our tent as we enjoyed a thunder and lightning show - Pilbara style. It is always nice to cool down a warm day with giant rain drops!
The highlight of the weekend was the following day when we hiked through Hancock Gorge, past Kermit's Pool and through to Junction Pool. We then ascended the waterfall that flowed from Weano Gorge and exited this gorge some 20 minutes later.
The night again put on another light-show but this time with more rain!
We were fortunate to enjoy the company of four USA students (studying at Notre Dame Uni) and a Ranger from Collie here on exchange from the USA also. The boys learnt about Karijini NP from On Track Hiking Hire.
