Sensory Overload
If you ever want to try something different and at the same time experience a real sensory overload - walk the Bibbulmun Track with no torch! In my case it was a short walk along the spur trail from Gringer Creek to North Bannister.
With torch in hand I pondered what would happen if the torch all of sudden didn't work. Could I make back to Gringer Creek or North Bannister? So I did what anyone would have done to test the theory - I turned the torch off.
The experience was amazing. The white sand of the track certainly helped with navigation - not unlike the white lines of a highway. The stars were marginally helpful. Once your eyes adjust you can focus on the track at hand. It is difficult though not to be spooked! I was expecting a roo to bound across the track without warning, a quenda to run across my feet or my face to be covered in a big huntsman spider, so my sensors were on high alert.
I only walked for 200m or so, but it was fun. Try it some day.
