Long Weekend Suggestions
The next long weekend is not far away - September 29th to be exact. With the spring weather making a couple of good shows lately, it is the perfect time to start planning a long weekend walk.
A 3-day walk can help cross off a section of the Bibbulmun Track you haven't visited yet. It is also a good way to test you both physically and mentally. It can be quite a challenge to spend 2 or 3 nights away.
If you can manage to get away Friday night and don't mind walking in the fading daylight for an hour or so it is a good way to kick off the adventure. It gives you a chance to acclimatise for the days ahead by having a short walk and an overnight camp. It also ensures a good early start "On Track" foe the Saturday.
Just flicking through the Bibbulmun Track Guidebook (Northern Section) - specifically the distance tables on page 296 (remember we let you use our Guidebooks for free with every equipment hire) - there are plenty of options for you to choose.
I try and avoid walking the same route twice. I like to head in the one direction. This is not always practical if you are intending on doing it alone. It is better if you can get a lift at the beginning and end of your journey. Perhaps leave a car at your end point and have someone ferry you to your start point. Which ever way you choose, you have to be comfortable with the risks of leaving a car unattended.
Please review our other Blog entries for our Top 3 walks this weekend:
1. Brookton Hwy to Sullivan Rock
2. Kalamunda to Mt Dale
3. Driver Rd to Dwellingup
