TOP WALK # 2 - KALAMUNDA TO MT DALE
DISTANCE: 57.3 kms
CAMPSITES: Ball Creek (Saturday) & Waalegh (Sunday)
DIFFICULTY: Hard - on the basis of the distance covered and hilly terrain.
OVERVIEW: Commece your walk from the Northern Terminus at Kalamunda. These first few sections of the Bibbulmun Track have campsites spaced only a short distance apart. This gives the walker the opportunity to "double hut" - in otherwords to camp at every second hut. This is important as access points along this section of Track are few and far between.
This entire section is very undulating as you walk through the valleys of the Darling Range. The walk to Ball Creek Campsite is 20.9 km - Hewitt's Hill campsite will make a good half way stop. If you don't mind the hills you will be rewarded with spectacular bushland and views.
Waalegh is a 18.1 km on Sunday which is again well supported by a campsite stop at the 8.6km mark at Helena Campsite. The walk on Monday to Mt Dale Lookout passing through Beraking campsite after 8.5 kms. The final ascent to Dale Rd and your collection point is long and steady.
