TOP WALK # 1 - BROOKTON HWY TO SULLIVAN ROCK
DISTANCE: 31.3 kms
CAMPSITES: Brookton (Friday - Optional), Canning (Saturday) & Monadnocks (Sunday)
DIFFICULTY: Easy - on the basis of the distance covered and occasional hilly terrain.
OVERVIEW: If you can get dropped off on Brookton Highway where the Bibblumun Track crosses the Highway (I would not recommend leaving your car here) on Friday night, you can walk the 2.5 km north to the Brookton campsite. This would be a good way to acclimatise yourself for the 3 days ahead.
On Saturday, head southbound towards the Canning campsite passing by Abyssinia Rock. The campsite is only 8.6 km away - an easy 2 to 3 hour walk. This will give a great opportunity to set up camp early, relax and access your progress on day one. The 15.6 km walk to Monadnocks will see you cross the Canning River and climb your way up toward Mt Randall. The increased distance will give you valuable experience and conditioning in which to tackle the hilly section of this walk the next day.
On Monday, the 7.1 km walk to Sullivan Rock will scale Mt Cuthbert and Mt Vincent. Great views are enjoyed from both these hills. The spur trail to Sullivan Rock will take to the carpark located along Albany Highway. This is a good spot in which to leave a car for your collection on Monday.
