The Bibbulmun Track is divided into two main sections - the Northern Half and the Southern Half. Guidebooks and maps can be purchased from The Bibbulmun Track Foundation (www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au) or most good camping retailers and bookstores. On Track Hiking Hire have both the Guidebooks & Maps available for use when our hiking equipment is hired.
The Northern Half covers 462 km between Kalamunda and Donnelly River Village. There are 30 sections of Track with campsites between 10km and 20km apart. This section of Track is entirely inland, significantly more undulating than the Southern Half and traditonally dryer and warmer. The forests are dominated by Jarrah, Wandoo and Marri. This is a good section to tackle in the winter months to minimise the chance of getting drenched!
This section affords some great views from Mt Dale, Mt Cuthbert, Mt Cooke, Boonerring Hill and the fire tower at Mt Wells. Follow the Murray River as you make your way through Nanga and finally cross the Long Gully Bridge. As you approach the mid-way point of this section, enjoy views across Harris & Glen Mervyn Dams. As you reach Donnelly River Village, enjoy a walk among the native kangaroos and emus that stroll casually around the old mill town.
