Cape2Cape Book
Im planning my maiden journey on the Cape to Cape Track for next month. I have had the Guidebook for a few months now and when craving some adventure grab it for a quick read.....and to be perfectly honest I don't find it an easy read or as helpful as it could be.
I may be comparing apples with oranges, but in comparison the Bibbulmun Track Guidebooks leave the Cape to Cape Guidebooks for dead. I can sit and read the Bibbulmun Track Guidebooks and clearly develop a vision for what lies ahead. I can't do that with the the Cape to Cape one.
Visually, I think the book scrambles my brain. The layout seems to jump all around - from standard font, to italics, to indents and bullet points. Then there are loads of images splashed around the pages. I also can't seem to tie all the sections together.
I was trying to plan my walk using the distance chart in the back (to get a feel for what sections I could walk each day) and then referring back to the main sections of the book to read about these in more detail. I wasn't connecting the two together easily.
I guess what I like about the trek notes in the Bibb Track books is that they are very concise. In the C2C book I have to read the paragragh to extract the information. I simply want to know what I will come up against at regular intervals.
Im struggling to find anything on the internet that improves on this.
Granted, I probably couldnt do a better job but it isnt going to stop me from trying. There has to be a better way to get this info in a more concise and readable format. Some sort of pocket guide would be ideal.
So if you are walking the Cape to Cape Track next month and see a person with GPS, notebook and frantic scribbling - more than likely it is me!
